Each student that uses our platform has a story, a reason, and a need for using SNYPUR. As much as we would like to help our students in their time of need, we cannot bring someone’s family member back, cure their debilitating illness, nor mend their emotional trauma. However, we can give our clients peace of mind by alleviating the impact of external stressors to their emotional, physical, and mental health.
One of my closest friends was brutally sexually assaulted during her final semester, making her final months in university the darkest. I will refer to her as Jane, (her name has been changed to protect her privacy).
I made a vow to always be there for Jane whenever she needed me– to listen and help her through her toughest days but it always felt like I could never do enough to take her pain away. Jane had too much on her plate. She had so much to deal with and it killed me to know how overwhelming just waking up each day was for her.
Her grades suffered, her mental health waned, and her troubles seemed to never end. Her story was a driving force for me to establish this academic platform to aid students dealing with any hardships ranging from sickness, trauma, or other external circumstances that hinder them from completing their coursework. Fortunately, Jane managed to graduate on time and got the necessary mental health services she needed to get back on track. Unfortunately, she was never able to use SNYPUR’s services.
With this lost opportunity to help someone who desperately needed it, SNYPUR wants to ensure that no student ever feels as powerless and as hopeless as Jane did during her final semester.
“The only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is the way in which we see them.”
For Jane, her final months of university were a never-ending cascade of stumbling blocks. I will always wish that SNYPUR could have been her stepping stones– leading her, more swiftly, to a place of healing and success. Experiences like Jane’s fuels SNYPUR.
The most important thing to any student (and anyone) is their family, health, mental and emotional well-being, and loved ones. SNYPUR wants to be there for students in ways that no professor, classmate, nor friend can be.
